Because I’m rubbish at remembering to do things, I’d probably forget to post my days of songs. So Instead I’ve put them all here, with handy Spotify links so you can have the pleasure/pain of listening to these.

30 Day Song Challenge

30 Day Song Challenge

Now, some of these songs aren’t the ones I really wanted to put here, mainly because Spotify doesn’t have every album/song ever released, but I’m happy with the following selection!

To save yourself some time, I’ve gone ahead and created a playlist for anyone who just wants to listen to all 30 tracks in one session: Click Here

For those who don’t know, the 30 Day Song Challenge is a phenomenon that seems to have hit Facebook at the moment, where you have to post a different song every day under categories such as “your favourite song” or “a song that you listen to when you’re angry”, so without further ado, presenting my 30 days:

Day 01 – your favourite song: Bert Sommer – Someone Like Me:

This is a song I’ve actually just recently got into, but has become a regular in my listening habits! This song was released in 1977 on Bert’s second self titled album. There is no official CD release, but can be heard on Spotify, and bought from Amazon. I highly recommend anyone to listen to that album, Bert was such an underrated artist.

Spotify

Day 02 – your least favourite song: Shania Twain – From This Moment On

The song is arguably ok, just I’ve personally had enough of it! At one point, it was the most requested wedding track I was asked to play at my Church! I cringe every time I hear it now!

If you must… here’s a Spotify link!

Day 03 – a song that makes you happy: Oliver – Good Morning Starshine

Just feel the “hippieness”, could it get any better than that?

Spotify

Day 04 – a song that makes you sad: Bread – Everything I Own

I found it hard to find a song that made me feel sad, but this one is about wanting someone back. I can empathise with that.

Spotify

Day 05 – a song that reminds you of someone: Smokey Robinson and The Miracles – Tears Of A Clown (UK Version)

I remember my first girlfriend, Siobhan, really liked this song, so this one always reminds me of her.

Spotify

Day 06 – a song that reminds you of somewhere: Lindisfarne – Run For Home

This one reminds me of home, especially when I’m away. Even though Lindisfarne were a bunch of Geordie lads, the song was written to be universal, so anyone could relate it to their own place they call home!

Spotify

Day 07 – a song that reminds you of a certain event: Abba – Happy New Year

Again, back to my ex-girlfriend for this one, we were having a long chat in a coffee shop when this song come on the sound system. We both commented on how we liked that song.

Spotify

Day 08 – a song that you know all the words to: Meatloaf – Bat Out Of Hell

I started getting into Meatloaf in 2003, when I starting browsing through my dad’s vinyl collection, it wasn’t long before I knew the whole album inside out!

Spotify

Day 09 – a song that you can dance to: Chic – Everybody Dance

Not really much of the dancing kind to be honest, so I thought I’d just stick some 80s dance music that plays on a local radio station often, which I quite like, here 🙂

Spotify

Day 10 – a song that makes you fall asleep: Maggie Reilly – Moonlight Shadow

A really nice tune, not heavy… The perfect mix of lovely vocals, and the musical genius that is Mike Oldfield (once, again, I don’t usually fall asleep listening music!)

Spotify (Link Updated 2011-04-15)

Day 11 – a song from your favourite band: Eagles – How Long

Eagles are pretty much my favourite band (well, probably Lindisfarne are actually my favourite, but I’ve already used a Lindisfarne song in this), sadly, only their latest album is on Spotify, but it’s still a really good track.

Spotify

Day 12 – a song from a band you hate: Crazy Frog – Axel F.

…yeah, apparently The Crazy Frog has been used in so many, so called, “songs”, he/it can officially be classed as an artist… Even “From This Moment On” is better than this… unless the frog covered it!

Spotify… if you dare!

Day 13 – a song that is a guilty pleasure: Kate Bush – The Man With The Child In His Eyes

Some people laugh when I talk about listening to Kate Bush (well, they laugh at my listening habits in general!), but I really like this song, and the album it’s came off: The Kick Inside

Spotify

Day 14 – a song that no one would expect you to love: Eminem – Lose Yourself

Yeah, I don’t usually listen to rap music, (or crap music, as some people like to call it), especially the more recent stuff, but for some reason, I quite like this one. I don’t really know why.

Spotify

Day 15 – a song that describes you: Linkin Park – Somewhere I Belong

This was a difficult one, as I never really know how to describe myself in words, never mind music, so I got my mate Mike to pick this one out for me… I’ll take his word for it!

Spotify

Day 16 – a song that you used to love but now hate: Aqua – Barbie Girl

Back in the 90s I did actually listen to new music, this was quite popular when I was 7.. I even have the CD Single somewhere! Sounds terrible now I listen to it now!

Spotify

Day 17 – a song that you hear often on the radio: The Chi-Lites – Have You Seen Her?

Ok, obviously I don’t listen to Radio 1 that often, I am usually permanently tuned to Magic 1152 (on the Medium Wave), and they seem to be playing this one a lot recently.

Spotify

Day 18 – a song that you wish you heard on the radio: Athena – To Be With You

I originally saw Athena at The Sage, Gateshead, back in 2007, I quite like her music, but it’s not something you’d often hear on the radio

Spotify

Day 19 – a song from your favourite album: Cat Stevens – Moonshadow

I’ve recently been getting heavily into music by Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam. My favourite album at the moment, is Teaser and The Firecat, this is the second last track on that album.

Spotify

Day 20 – a song that you listen to when you’re angry: Dr. Hook – Life Ain’t Easy

Though I’ll listen to anything no matter what mood I’m in, this song reminds me that life doesn’t always go the way you plan it.

Spotify

Day 21 – a song that you listen to when you’re happy: Sam Cooke – Wonderful World

Just another great song

Spotify

Day 22 – a song that you listen to when you’re sad: Fairport Convention – Who Knows Where The Time Goes?

A song that reminds you of the past, with superb vocals from the late Sandy Denny

Spotify

Day 23 – a song that you want to play at your wedding: R.E.O Speedwagon – Keep On Loving You

Haha, purely for the high level of “cheese”… well, it was hardly going to be “From This Moment On” now was it! 😉

Spotify

Day 24 – a song that you want to play at your funeral: Alan Hull – I Hate To See You Cry

I think this song might actually have an ironic effect, as it would probably end up making people cry, but never mind!

Spotify

Day 25 – a song that makes you laugh: Lonnie Donegan – My Old Man’s a Dustman

A classic!

Spotify

Day 26 – a song that you can play on an instrument: Elton John – Can You Feel The Love Tonight?

I learnt to play this on the Piano a long time ago, not sure if I can still play it though!

Spotify

Day 27 – a song that you wish you could play: Van Halen – Eruption

I wish I could play the guitar, and I wish I could play this… awesome!

Spotify

Day 28 – a song that makes you feel guilty: Genesis – Tell Me Why

From their 1991 album “We Can’t Dance”, this was a tough call between this and Tracy Chapman’s “Why?”, but they’re practically about the same thing, why is there suffering in the world? It makes me feel guilty about all the things I take for granted.

Spotify

Day 29 – a song from your childhood: Wamadue Project – King Of My Castle

The year was 1999, back when I still used to listen to new music on a regular basis. I still quite like this one!

Spotify

Day 30 – your favourite song at this time last year: Jethro Tull – Teacher

…and finally! About this time last year, I really started getting into Jethro Tull, and out of the many songs I listened to, I really liked this one
